2024: The year of patient-centered innovation

Ever since launching A Life in a Day’s immersive patient experiences our founder, Mark Doyle, has always believed in the power of empathy to unlock extraordinary outcomes for the patient, healthcare, and pharma. Being able to prove it, however, has always been an exciting challenge!

We have seen some fantastic breakthroughs in 2024. Many of these have been shaped by the innovations from the A Life in a Day Creative Team but it is through the insights shared with us by the thousands of participants throughout the year that has helped launch a wave of patient-centric innovation across the industry.

Below are some of our favourite highlights from 2024, and whilst we cannot list them all, let’s dive into some key events that demonstrate the tangible impact of putting the patient’s first.

Thought-provoking events…

At industry events such as Patients as Partners, London and Reuters Pharma, Barcelona 2024, when compared to just a few years ago we have witnessed a fantastic change in what people are talking about.

No longer are industry leaders just using the words patient-centricity – they are making it central to their strategies. This has shown in powerful industry voices such as Emma Sutcliffe, ISPEP, joining us to share in how clinical trials are adapting from a traditional approach to a patient-centered one, fundamentally changing how clinical trials and patient care are conducted.

In other conversations with industry professionals, such as Mani Chidambaram, Head of Commercial Development and Learning; US General Medicines, Sanofi, it is clear patient-first initiatives are driven not only by people working in patient advocacy roles but are increasingly coming from the top down.

We’ve enjoyed engaging with so many professionals within the pharma and healthcare industry at this year’s events, hearing what they are doing to put the patient at the heart of what they do. The energy and enthusiasm from the industry is truly inspirational – and we cannot wait to hear more in 2025!

Encouraging tangible changes

Looking back at our article coming up in 2024 we gave a sneak peek into our planned 30-day follow-up workshops. A Life in a Day participants have shared some incredible stories of changes they have made in workplace that are making a real difference in the lives of patients.

I plan on highlighting the constant disruptions, anxiety, and inconveniences those with asthma and their friends/family deal with on a daily basis. This will help me paint the picture of what proper treatment for asthma patients is so critical and how [we] can help… I am now even more passionate and motivated now to help these patients.”

Quotes like this, and many others we share on our social media channels summarise the impact of our work. In stepping into a patient’s shoes, you become a powerful advocate for change.

Speaking up for the patient

With a background in the arts, we encourage the pharma audience to be more vocal about putting the patient first!

Your social posts have not gone unnoticed by the team. We are thrilled to see  many of you posting about your experiences going through our patient simulations, driving conversations about how they have inspired you to put patients first  in your roles. We’ve reposted some of these so check out our LinkedIn page to read them firsthand!

What it means to us

2024 has been an extraordinary year for us. We have expanded our team, developed and improved even more experiences in therapy areas such as obesity and multiple sclerosis, and enhanced our evaluation of what patient focused initiatives can mean for your company.

Our message has not changed however, and we will passionately stand by our belief that by continuing to drive innovation through increased empathy and understanding, we can create better outcomes that truly put the patient at the heart of what we do.

Happy Holidays from the A Life in a Day team!
