How LEO Pharma Used A Life in a Day’s deeper insights to enhance HCP education

With both pharma and HCP working towards putting the patient first, collaborations are increasing as we collectively aim toward a common goal.

Sharing the opportunity to walk in a patient’s shoes both internally and externally with HCPs allowed LEO to integrate the empathy and understanding they discovered throughout their team globally and also strengthen relationships with the HCPs they worked with.

Both found common benefits and better outcomes beyond traditional patient centric approaches, including changes in clinical practice.

But what often gets overlooked is the impact on a patient’s life from a wider level, considering the emotional, social, and psychological aspects.

Without understanding human context, treatments can sometimes feel lackluster. This is where A Life in a Day comes in.

The team at LEO Pharma decided to enhance their practices and reached out to the A Life in a Day team to build a more empathetic approach to medical education for their teams and HCPs.

Here are our key takeaways:

It starts, and ends, with listening to the patient

No matter how empathetic we may be or how much we may know about the condition, there are always insights we may not be aware of, with patients often unwilling to speak out for various reasons.

Before collaborating with us, LEO Pharma had already conducted patient insights research which started to uncover a deeper understanding of the challenge of living with chronic hand eczema.

Realising there were gaps in their understanding of the true patient journey, Emily was the first to go through the A Life in a Day experience before rolling it out to others at LEO Pharma.

Emily shares some of her thoughts about the constant awareness of living with chronic hand eczema.

HCPs found it highly valuable – and made practical changes

LEO Pharma offered the experience externally and the results were overwhelmingly positive. Discussions revolved around what HCPs were now doing differently to better cater for improved patient outcomes.

Embedding empathy from the inside out

For those looking to work with patient experiences in collaboration with external stakeholders, Emily shared best practice in how she succeeded by starting internally and building belief – which has led to growth of the experience within LEO Pharma and beyond.
