Sharing Patient Stories to Change Patient Outcomes

We reflect with our creative team on the development process of our experiences, and dive deeper into how real patient stories are shaping an emotive journey that genuinely changes lives.

Immersive learning has the power to generate profound empathy. That is the core proposition inspiring our immersive patient experiences, leading us to develop an invaluable tool designed to help healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical teams, and medical practitioners truly understand the lived experiences of their patients.

Stepping into the patient’s shoes

Built through our three key elements, users encounter the daily, high-stakes decisions that individuals with over 45 conditions, including Renal Cell Carcinoma, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and COPD, must navigate. These choices impact every facet of a person’s life: their physical and mental health, their career, and their family. Ultimately, acting, speaking, feeling, and thinking like a patient firsthand empowers others to make better, more patient-centric decisions in their professional practice.

The Creative View: Listening to real lives

As Creative Lead, a vital part of Chiara’s role in developing A Life in a Day is interviewing patients. She wanted to know how they felt upon receiving their diagnosis, how they managed the beginning of their treatment, how they felt then, what helped them cope, and what they wished had been different.

These extraordinary stories, combined with rigorous guidance from medical experts, form the foundation of our content. They allow us to craft an engaging, authentic narrative from beginning to end, ensuring our tone hits the right note.

Eye-opening insights from chronic kidney patients

In a previous programme focused on Chronic Kidney Disease, Chiara listened to unforgettable accounts:

  • One interviewee chose her treatment options to ensure it helped her to keep feeling like her usual self, right down to having the confidence to flirt.
  • Another shared the surreal experience of performing her own dialysis on her wedding day.
  • A third described how sheer, crushing fatigue meant it took two hours just to change their bedding – and the guilt they felt from a simple task.

These powerful anecdotes offer a vital glimpse into real lives far beyond a medical chart. Put simply, patients become people. Chiara felt privileged to be entrusted to retell them as faithfully and authentically as possible.

The impact of patient-centric healthcare

This is an opportunity for patients to share their experience knowing that their voice can make a tangible difference. That their stories have the power to change the way medical professionals view and treat other patients like them and ultimately improve their lives.
